MC ZULU – Love Machine Refix

We’re delving back into the realm of Classic Jamaican Riddims with this one. The whimsically named “Cookie Monster” Riddim is actually no joke. The sound was ingeniously sculpted. Produced by Trevor “Baby G” James (Son of the legendary King Jammy) it’s an eclectic mix of rhythmic percussion, featuring reduced “attack” on drums that would otherwise be quite abrasive. Add to that a masterful, just-in-time swing on the minimal bass hits.

The end result coaxes movement rather than commanding it. The Cookie Monster Riddim was released in 2004 as part of VP’s Riddim Driven series. It’s perfect for the song Love Machine, as I restate my most consistent sentiment to the world: Make Love Not War. Artwork reflects how that came from the counter-culture movement of the 1960’s. Acappellas are there for anyone wanting to remix.
