Spread The Word: Wax (Vinyl Bar & Ramen Noodle Shop)

Imagine for one moment that you wander into a Hip-Hop DJ’s vision of a Japanese Jazz club. You might expect to find the music being curated from a collector’s perspective. I believe that appreciation for the artform would take the forefront, and you’d definitely be able to spot notables on the scene filling the roster. This experience comes to life in the form of WAX… a vinyl bar and ramen noodle shop.

Located in Chicago’s West Town district, WAX seems like a fun place to book a private event, or meet for casual conversation. As you enjoy any number of specialty drinks from the picturesque bar, you’re entertained by actual DJ luminaries. The night I paid a visit we were treated to the sounds of Mike Caliber from WGCI Radio. IG: @DJMikeCaliber

The WAX kitchen boasts an imaginative use of fruit and vegetables, to recreate the sweet/savory balance of Japanese-inspired dishes. If you’d like to try watermelon sushi, or tempura coated mushrooms over fried rice, peruse the menu here. While they do not serve desserts, the food is surprisingly filling. Also the “Togarashi” Fries might actually cause you to drop the word “French” from your vocabulary.
