MC ZULU – uKyphi

uKyphi
It’s the end of the year and I’m just slipping this one in to be honest. There are a few more tracks planned in this vein, but this one has been ready for months. The idea was to lay vocals on it, but the end result sounded too cluttered. I have been experimenting with Deep House, Afro House and evolving Dancehall on the production side of things… but still laying vocals here and there, when they fit.

Ukyphi is a combination word: Ukuphi, a Zulu word loosely translated to “where”. Kyphi, the incense ancient Egyptians would use for rituals. The song was composed with North Africa in mind, where people, culture and customs are all mixed. The origins of everything are in always question, due to some evil doctrines. I still labor under the apparently idiotic assumption that music brings us together, but I’m going to stop saying it all the time, and just play it.
