I met DJ Slugo quite by accident. We were both tired after a night of partying at the Chicago Dance Mania 30th Anniversary Celebration. I was in the audience and he was actually the one throwing the show. The next day we were formally introduced at DJ Fortune’s birthday party. As a transplant to Chicago via Milwaukee, via the UK, Fortune has always been a great advocate for making positive connections on the music scene. Shoutout to Andrew Emil, aka Change Request, who was also in the place, showing me how to create plugins. It was a great 24 hrs., and I came away with two tracks from Slugo…. who is a BEAST.

I asked Slugo “When are you Juke guys going to start working with Reggae singers, maaan?”. Almost immediately I had the two tracks in my inbox; “Cool. Let’s see what you do with these”. He’s a man of few words, but also one of those rare producers who makes fully mastered dance floor bangers, faster than even I can write to them. I’ve experimented before with my Global Bass family, but Slugo is literally one of the Ghetto House ORIGINATORS we were all listening to. Whatever happens next is coming straight from ground zero (Chicago), and it’s in line with the Electro Reggae mode I’ve been pushing all along. “Wet Gyal” is our first release.
